While it may be true that the purpose of a business is to make money or produce a certain widget, YOUR motivation for starting and building your business must be more than that. Your purpose translates into your business purpose, either intentionally or otherwise.
Rather than compartmentalizing the personal and business aspects of your life, create synergy between them by tying your core values to your culture, your purpose to your business. This will lead to more engagement and purpose for the whole team. Their engagement will in turn percolate down to your customers because they will feel like a part of your purpose.
“How To Identify And Build The Purpose Behind Your Business” by Thomas Torade, Forbes
How do you identify your business purpose?
Forbes recommends answering these questions:
- Who are you as a person? What is it about you that people value?
- Think about what have you achieved? What are you proud of? What's added meaning to your life and gave you a sense of fulfillment?
- How has your life unfolded in the following areas: family, friends, business, health (emotional, spiritual and physical), home, fun, education, service, leadership and community?
- What you can see around you? How does this make you feeling? How do you know you’re truly happy?
- Why is my company doing what it does, and how does this relate to my purpose?
- What am I doing intentionally to build a long-term sustainable business?
